Harima Releases Tackifier with Superior Heat Resistance
Aug 25, 2025
Harima is glad to announce the release of a new tackifier that meets the increasing need for sustainable agents with strong adhesion and superior resistance to heat.
The product is currently being assessed with customers in and outside of Japan towards commercialization.
We have long developed pine-derived rosin-based tackifiers for a wide range of products, such as packaging labels and adhesives tapes, etc. Using these long-honed technologies, we are now diversifying our portfolio to reach a wider audience and increase presence in such areas as the automotive sector etc.
During the production process of cars, the dashboard is fixed in place using gluing agents, however these adhesives present certain disadvantages, such as the release of volatile organic compounds (VOC) during drying with a negative impact on the environment and human health, and inferior recyclability due to their strong adhesion to the surface which makes it difficult to peel them off without leaving marks on, or breaking the contact surface. On the other hand, pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) can be delivered to the manufacturer in tape form, eliminating the drying process and therefore the release of VOC in the atmosphere, which also contributes to reducing production time and costs. In addition, they can be peeled off without leaving marks on, or breaking the contact surface, and can also be re-applied after peeling without a loss in performance.
Our newly developed tackifier acts as an aid to PSAs, improving their overall performance, and providing enhanced sustainability through their high content of pine-derived rosin. Moreover, it helps PSAs withstand high temperatures while maintaining functionality, and is compatible with acrylic mixtures. Combining excellent heat resistance, blendability and sustainability, the new tackifier is opening new possibilities for the automotive sector etc.
We will continue to develop products of superior quality that serve diverse market needs and actively contribute to the development of a sustainable society.
